The Elizabethton Lions Club recently completed a cleanup this weekend of their adopted highway.

A busy couple of months are ahead for a local cleanup group in the county.
Carter County Proud is scheduled to host a special meeting on Wednesday, Nov. 9, at Smokehouse BBQ in Elizabethton with the start time set for 6 p.m. according to an announcement made by the organization’s founder, Edward Jordan.
A menu will be available for attendees to purchase a meal or snack from the restaurant.
The items on the agenda include reading the mission statement and reinforcing the organization’s main objectives (educate, enforce and cleanup & disposal) and reading of the impact statement.
Members of the Carter County Sheriff’s Department that handle illegal dumping and trash abatement will be in attendance to serve as the group’s guest speakers for the evening.
In an update provided by Jordan, the Carter County Proud founder said they would be attending the December 8 Elizabethton City Council meeting to request support for the group to become associated with Keep Tennessee Beautiful — an affiliate of Keep America Beautiful.
During the October County Commission meeting, Carter County Proud was able to secure a $2,000 contribution from officials to put toward affiliation with Keep America Beautiful. The overall price tag is $4,000, which Jordan will look to acquire funding by the city.
Jordan encouraged supporters to get the word out and contact our local authorities about our mission, stop by a business that has litter around their area, identify hot spots and dump sites, get involved with school board meetings and ask for help in the campaign, visit their Facebook page and suggest local groups to contact the Tennessee Department of Transportation to take part in the Adopt-A-Highway program.
Along with the Carter County Proud’s cleanup effort, the Elizabethton Lions Club recently concluded their own event on US 19E.
Jordan added a special thanks to the club for taking part in the cleanup.
