Mary Lou May Bare Oliver

Mary Lou May Bare Oliver, 84, of Elizabethton, passed away Sunday, October 30, 2016, at Life Care Center of Elizabethton following an extended illness.
A native of Carter County, she was a daughter of the late Isaac Frank and Hester Jane Peters May.
Mary was a graduate of Elizabethton High School and attended Lees-McRae College, Banner Elk. She was a Licensed Practical Nurse. She had worked at the former Carter County Memorial Hospital for many years and also at Sycamore Shoals Hospital.
Mary was a member of Harmony Baptist Church. Prior to her illness she was active in the WMU of the church. She was a lifetime member of the Carter County Crewettes.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two husbands, Billy Jack Bare and R.B. Oliver; two children, John Bare and Julie Hicks; two grandchildren, David “Bo” Woods Jr. and Renee Woods; four sisters, Charlotte Smith, Betty Arnold, Lucy and Rebecca May; and one brother, Elbert May.
Survivors include her children, Jackie Woods and husband David, Hampton, and Mark Bare and wife Lucy, Oakland, Calif.; four grandchildren, Nicholas Bare, Misty Shiley, Brandon Hicks and wife Betsy and Audrey Crawford; eight great-grandchildren; three sisters, Bonnie Carr and husband Joe, Ruth Pilk and husband Robert “Dab,” and Christine Swain and husband J.C., all of Elizabethton; two brothers, Alvin May and wife Phyllis and Frank May Jr. and wife Jan, all of Elizabethton; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be conducted at 6 p.m. Thursday, November 3, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with Pastor Eric Brown officiating. The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Friends may also visit with the family at the home of Jackie and David Woods, Hampton. The family would like to express a special “Thank You” to the staff of Life Care Center and her church family for all their support. Per her request she will be cremated.
