A local business is partnering with veteran organizations to help provide some warmth and care to active duty military and veterans in the community.
Shoe Sensation, located in the Elk Crossing shopping center on West Elk Avenue, is holding Socks 4 Troops and Veterans, a drive to collect socks for military personnel and veterans. Customers who shop at Shoe Sensation can purchase a pair of socks to donate to the drive and for their donation they will receive a discount on their entire purchase as a reward.
“We do stock the military approved socks, but we can use the other socks for our local veterans,” said Nancy Berry, an assistant manager with the Elizabethton Shoe Sensation store.
Collecting the socks for troops and veterans is a way for the company to show its thanks to those who have served their country as well as a way of supporting the local community, Shoe Sensation Store Manager Sharon Clark said.
“As a company, Shoe Sensation, we are always looking for any community involvement opportunity,” Clark said. “We love our veterans. We do offer a veterans discount.”
The store will be collecting socks for the drive from now through Christmas, Clark said. The store is working with Carter County Veterans Services Officer David Batchelder to help identify soldiers and veterans to receive the socks. Shoe Sensation has partnered with the American Legion Post 49 Women’s Auxiliary, who will be shipping some of the socks overseas to those who are currently serving in the military.
“We’re going to give some of the socks to our local veterans in the nursing homes and at the VA,” Berry said.
Shoe Sensation is located at 725 W. Elk Ave.
