Larry J. Hughes, 63, of Watauga, passed away on Friday, November 18, 2016, at Hillview Health Center. Larry was born in Carter County on September 17, 1953 to Walter Eugene Hughes Jr. and Ruby Clara Davis Hughes of Watauga.
Larry was employed at American Water Heater for 20 years, until he retired. He was a member of Fairview Baptist Church, where he attended faithfully for as long as his health permitted. He enjoyed crossword puzzles and country music.
Those left to cherish his memory include his parents, Walter and Ruby Hughes, Watauga; a brother, David Eugene Hughes, Watauga; and two nieces, Debbie Jones and husband James of South Carolina and Angela Pederson and husband Jay of Commerce City, Colo.
A graveside service to honor the life of Larry J. Hughes will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, November 19, in the Scalf Cemetery in Watauga. Active pallbearers will be selected from friends. Those wishing to attend the service are asked to meet at the cemetery at 1:50 p.m. Saturday. The family would like to say thank you to the doctors and staff of Sycamore Shoals Hospital and to the staff of Hillview Health Center for seeing to all Larry’s needs while in their care.
