One Elizabethton High School student recently took time out help beautify one of the parks in the city.
Slade Nakoff recently spent hours of his time to help fix benches located at Walter Curtis Park, adjacent to the Carter County Health Department.
Nakoff spent time working at the park as part of his Eagle Scout Project, and Elizabethton Parks and Recreation Director Mike Mains said he appreciated the effort of the high school student.
“We’re really blessed to have people in the community like Slade who will take the time out to help beautify our parks,” Mains said. “Slade reached out to us for the activity and wanted to use his skills to help out Walter Curtis Park. The work he put in is greatly beneficial not only to us, but for the people that use the park daily and we appreciate it.”
Along with Slade’s efforts, Big John’s Closeouts offered assistance in the project by providing tools for the renovations.
“Big John’s is always such a great asset in the community,” Mains said. “Mike Barnett and the rest of his staff are always great about helping in the community where they can. Big John’s provided some of the tools for Slade to use for the project.”
With the bevy of parks scattered across Elizabethton, the director stated that help, like Slade’s, goes a long way in keeping the areas in great condition for the public to use.
“Slade’s work is just another example of somebody wanting to put the effort to help the community,” Mains said. “We’ve been so blessed to have people and different groups that take the time out to help our parks and want to help the city.”
