Tuesday officially started a new era for City of Elizabethton officials.
A special swear-in ceremony was hosted inside the City Hall’s council chambers where multiple individuals took their oaths of office for the upcoming year.

Criminal Court Judge Stacy Street led the ceremony, starting with Elizabethton Municipal Judge T.J. Little Jr. getting sworn in. Little won his reelection bid against challenger John Walton during the November election.
Street then provided the oath of office for the newly elected City Council members.
Elizabethton Mayor Curt Alexander and councilman Jeff Treadway won their reelection bids to the City Council while newly-elected Kim Birchfield, overall vote-getter in the November election, will assume his first term in office.

The event concluded with Street providing an oath of office to Elizabethton Chief of Police Jason Shaw. Shaw was appointed the city’s chief last week by City Manager Jerome Kitchens after an extensive interview process that featured over 10 applicants. Shaw, who served in the interim prior to last week’s announcement, replaces Greg Workman — who resigned from the position to assume the role as the city’s purchasing director.
Mayor Alexander took a moment during the ceremony to congratulate each official on their duties and wished everyone the best of luck moving forward.
