J.N. Winters, 81, of Elk Park, N.C., departed this world to be with the Lord, on Monday, December 19, 2016, in the Smoky Ridge Health and Rehab Center in Burnsville, N.C. Mr. Winters was the son of the late Samuel Burgen and Hildred Elliott Winters and was born in Avery County, N.C. In addition his parents, he was preceded in death by his ex-wife, Gladys Elizabeth Ellis, and a special friend, Jim Jones.
Mr. Winters was retired from the North Carolina Department of Corrections where he worked as a guard for 30 years. He was a member of Little Elk Baptist Church.
Those left to cherish his memory include four sons, Audie Winters, Elk Park, Randolph Winters, Elk Park, Clint Winters, Shell Creek, and Jason Winters, Elk Park, and a sister, Louise McKinney, Elk Park.
Private interment will be held in the Sam Winters Cemetery in Elk Park. Condolences may be shared with the family on our website, www.tetrickfuneralhome.com.
