Oscar “Clayton” Hathaway Jr.

TULSA, Okla. — Services celebrating the life of Oscar “Clayton” Hathaway Jr., 90, were held at 11 a.m. Monday, December 19, at Rose-Neath Marshall Street Chapel, 1815 Marshall Street, Shreveport, La. Officiating was Rev. Mimi McDowell of Noel Memorial United Methodist Church. Interment was at Forest Park East Cemetery, St. Vincent Avenue, Shreveport. The family received friends from 3 until 5 p.m. Sunday, December 18, at the funeral home.
Clayton was born October 25, 1926 in Shreveport, La., to Jessie Oberdorfer Hathaway and Oscar Clayton Hathaway Sr., and passed away November 20, 2016 in Jenks, Okla. Clayton graduated from St. John’s High School. Before starting college, he joined the United States Navy and faithfully served on the USS Casablanca in the Pacific during World War II. Clayton then attended Louisiana Tech University earning a Business Degree. He continued his love of the military, serving 20 years in the Air Force Reserve, retiring with the rank of Major. When Clayton was not serving in the military, he worked at Westinghouse Electric, Interstate Electric, and Electric Supply as their Purchasing Manager. He loved watching his favorite teams, Dallas Cowboys and the Houston Astros, play. Clayton was a member of Noel Memorial United Methodist Church. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, son and brother who loved God and his family. He will be missed by all that loved him.
Clayton was preceded in death by his parents, and his wife, Erie L. Hathaway.
Leaving to cherish his memory are his children: son, Oscar C. Hathaway III and wife, Kimla; granddaughter, Samantha Lynn Hathaway; and brother, Don Hathaway and wife, Betty Lou.
Honoring Clayton as pallbearers were the Air Force Honor Guards. Serving as honorary pallbearers were Jim Guy Gibson, Louis Gibson, Rev. Jack Gibson, John D. Caruthers Jr., H.H. “Andy” Andrews, William “Bill” Dowden and the Couple’s Class at Noel United Methodist Church.
