In the spirit of Christmas, a local man decided to share his blessings with a local child through the Boys and Girls Club of Elizabethton/Carter County.
On Thursday, Junior Stanley donated a special bicycle to the Boys and Girls Club to be given to one of the children served by the program.
The special Panama Jack Cruiser bike features a detachable basket on the front, a cup holder on the handlebars and a cargo rack on the back.
“It’s so unique. It’s a limited edition bike,” Stanley said. “I’ve had it in my garage for two or three years.”
Stanley said he has been wrestling with the idea of giving the bicycle away to someone who could use it for some time. He said he considered giving it to someone in his church or trying to locate someone in the community in need. The decision became clear following a recent tour of the Club.
“We visited the Boys and Girls Club a few weeks ago and spoke with the director,” Stanley said. “I asked her if she could get it to someone who needs it and she said she could.”
Stanley delivered the bicycle to the club on Thursday, receiving the thanks from the organization.
Boys and Girls Club Executive Director Ginny Wright said the Club will host a special contest among the program members with the winner receiving the bicycle. She said they are not yet sure what the contest will be but an announcement will be made at a later time to the children who take part in the Club’s programs.
