Mrs. Donna Marie McKinney

Mrs. Donna Marie McKinney, 61, of Roan Mountain, went home to be with her Lord, on Saturday, December 24, 2016, at her home. She was the daughter of the late Harold Clifford and Gertrude Hampton Hicks and was born in Wise, VA, although she lived most of her life in Roan Mountain. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Georgia Brown.
Mrs. McKinney was formerly employed at Life Care of Banner Elk and The Waters at Roan Highlands and was a member of Sugar Hollow Freewill Baptist Church. She loved spending time with her family and she also enjoyed shopping.
Those left to cherish her memory include her husband of forty-three years, Lonnie McKinney, of the home; a son, Ronnie McKinney and his wife, Brittanie, Beech Mountain, NC; two grandchildren, Sgt. Jacob McKinney, USMC, and his wife, Kristin, Camp Pendleton, CA; Ivy Rose McKinney, Newland, NC; three brothers, Johnny Hicks, and his wife, Melba; David Hicks, and his wife, Teresa, all of Roan Mountain; Rick Hicks, Sugar Mountain, NC; seven sisters, Sue Stevens, and her husband, Ronald, Roan Mountain; Peggy Arnett, Elk Park, NC; Judy Davis, and her husband, Bud, Elk Park, NC; Sheila Hicks, Roan Mountain; Vickie Hicks, Roan Mountain; Patsy Ferguson, and her husband, Mike, Newland, NC; Bobby Jo Hicks, Roan Mountain. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
A service to honor the life of Mrs. McKinney will be conducted at 7:00 PM on Tuesday, December 27, 2016, in the Rhododendron Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home, Roan Mountain, with Rev. Randy English and Rev. Marvin Sheets officiating. Music will be under the direction of The English Family. The family will receive friends in the funeral home from 5:00 – 7:00 PM on Tuesday prior to the service or at the home at any time.
The graveside service and interment will be conducted on Wednesday, December 28, 2016, at 11:00 AM in the Knight Cemetery in Hampton Creek. Active pallbearers will be John Hicks, Greyland Webb, Woody Thompson, Kris Roark, Jonah Horney, Will Hicks, Mike Ferguson and Mike Gray. Jamie Davis will serve as honorary pallbearer. Those wishing to attend are invited to meet the family at the funeral home at 10:30 AM on Wednesday to go in procession to the cemetery.
The family would like to express their most sincere thanks and appreciation to Amedysis Hospice, and her nurse, Lorie, for all the love and care shown to Mrs. McKinney and the family during her illness.
