Lester Leon Whitehead, 74, of Roan Mountain, passed away Wednesday, December 28, 2016, at Sycamore Shoals Hospital.
A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late Charlie and Sarah Guinn Whitehead.
Leon was a 1960 graduate of Cloudland High School and was retired from the Carter County School System in the Maintenance Department. He attended the Strength & Everlasting Love Church. Leon loved his mule.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 36 years, Louise Eggers Whitehead, who died June 24, 2015, and a sister, Loretta McKinney.
Survivors include a sister, Della Whitehead, Roan Mountain; his nephews, Chris and Shannon Whitehead, Roan Mountain, Blake Whitehead, Roan Mountain, Michael and Raquel McKinney, Piney Flats, and Mark and April McKinney, Knoxville; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.
Funeral services for Lester Leon Whitehead will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, December 31, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with Pastor Kenneth Baker and Pastor John McCoury officiating. Interment will follow at Happy Valley Memorial Park with Pastor Delaney Berry officiating. Active pallbearers will be Chris Whitehead, Frank Montgomery, Jack Montgomery, Danny Montgomery, Ronnie Townsend, Michael McKinney and Mark McKinney. Honorary pallbearers will be Mike Blevins, Raymond Hill, Bill Johnson, Jeff Hughes, Howard Presnell, Dave Maple and Stanley Largent.
