Patsy Blevins Holloway

Patsy Blevins Holloway, 75, of Elizabethton, Tenn., passed away Thursday, December 22, 2016, at Johnson City Medical Center following a brief illness.
A native of Carter County, she was the daughter of the late Willie “Bill” and Ruth Mathes Blevins.
Patsy was the salutatorian of the 1959 Class of Elizabethton High School where she was a member of several different clubs including the National Honor Society. She was captain of the girls’ basketball team that went to the state championship her senior year. Patsy attended East Tennessee State College, currently E.T.S.U., where she helped to start the dance program. She was a dancer and had performed at the Bonnie Kate Theatre.
Patsy was a member of Hunter United Methodist Church. She was a pianist at church and began playing at the age of eight. She was a past Sunday school teacher at the church and had served as church secretary until 1974. She retired from the Asbury Center as a CNA after 22 years. She also taught the special education class at Hunter Elementary as well as the first grade. She taught in the first Head Start program that began in 1978. Her home was an open door and she loved to cook. Patsy served as a Girl Scout Mother and was an active band booster at Elizabethton High School.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Buddy Blevins, and a sister-in-law, Darlene Vest Blevins.
Those left to cherish her memory include a son, Shayne Holloway, Johnson City, Tenn.; two daughters, Lisa Holloway and Shanan Adams and husband Erick, all of Elizabethton, Tenn.; a niece, Cathy Pierce; and a nephew, Bill Blevins.
Funeral services for Patsy Blevins Holloway will be conducted at 7 p.m. Monday, January 2, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Estel Williams officiating. The graveside service and interment will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday, January 3, 2017, at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Honorary pallbearers will be William Cote, Bobby Winters FNP, Bill Blevins, John Kelley, Skip Davis-Wilhoit, Maynard Holloway, Glen Alan Johnson and Stephen Wilhoit. Family and friends may meet at the funeral home at 2:20 p.m. Tuesday. Those who prefer memorials in lieu of flowers may make donations to the Alzheimer’s Association, 2007 N.
