Ray Whitehead

Ray Whitehead, 74, Elizabethton, passed away Tuesday, January 3, 2016 in the Sycamore Shoals Hospital. A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late John Hensley & Mary Ann Ingram Whitehead. Ray was a 1960 graduate of Cloudland High School. He was retired from the Telephone Industry after 45 years of service. He started with United Inter Mountain Telephone in the early 60’s. Ray was a member of Hopson Chapel Free Will Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife: Opal “Gail” Stanley Whitehead, his son: Donald Ray Whitehead, four brothers: George, Evans “Buster”, Sam and Robert “Bob” Whitehead.

Survivors include his daughter & son-in-law: Jennifer & John-Claude Hardin, Elizabethton. A brother & sister-in-law: Arnold & Margaret Whitehead. Several nieces & nephews.

A Graveside Service will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, January 7, 2017 in the Garland Cemetery with the Rev. Eric Heaton officiating. Burial will follow the service. Active Pallbearers will be selected from family and friends.  Honorary Pallbearers will be his brother, Arnold Whitehead, his nephews, Jeremy Blevins, Mike Mileschkowsky, Ray Oney, Ray Lawson, Paul Taylor and his previous Co-Workers. The family will receive friends from 12 Noon Saturday until 2 p.m. at the funeral home. Friends may also visit with the family at 2611 Highway 91, Elizabethton.
