Each year, the Friends of Sycamore Shoals perform Liberty! The Saga of Sycamore Shoals, which is Tennessee’s Official Outdoor Drama and portrays historic events that happened Carter County. The group is currently searching for a director to lead this year’s production.

A search is currently underway for a new director for the 2017 season of Liberty! The Saga of Sycamore Shoals.
Each year, the Friends of Sycamore Shoals group and a host of volunteers stage a production of Liberty! at Sycamore Shoals State Historic Park. The Friends group is currently searching for a new director, which is a paid position with the drama.
“There is a small salary associated with it,” said Jennifer Bauer, Park Manager at Sycamore Shoals State Historic Park. “It’s based on how much time is invested during the different months.”
The director’s position runs from February through September, with the drama performances taking place the last three weekends in July.
The Friends group has drafted a job performance plan for the position, which will help those applying for the position know what will be expected of them and what the scheduling for the job will be like.
The director will be working with an all volunteer cast and crew to bring the history of Sycamore Shoals to life in the drama. As part of the duties of the position, the director will interpret the script, cast the production, collaborate with technical and Park staff, plan rehearsals and guild the actors in their performances. Directing experience is preferred for the position, but the Friends group said comparable experience will also be considered.
Those interested in the directors position are asked to contact Bauer for a complete list of expectations or to submit their application for the job. Bauer said she encourages people to contact her by her e-mail address jennifer.bauer@tn.gov so she can reply and send them the job performance plan.
In addition to the director’s position, Bauer said the Friends group is also reaching out to individuals who might not want to direct but would like to be involved in the drama in other ways.
“We always love to have new volunteers join us as cast members or in production crew,” Bauer said. The drama features both speaking and non-speaking roles, she said.
Those interested in joining the cast or production crew can also contact Bauer through her e-mail address for more information.
