Dorothy “Dot” McClain Woodby, 95, of Johnson City, passed away Thursday, January 19, 2017. She was born November 23, 1921 in Roan Mountain to the late Jack and Annie Wilson McClain.
Dorothy was a graduate of Cloudland High School. She worked over 60 years in nursing. She was of the Baptist Faith.
She was preceded in death by her only child, Sue McClain Scott, March 2016; three brothers, Albert, Henry and Jack McClain; and four sisters, Blanche Russell, Lucy Webb, Mable McClain and Margie Marshall.
Left to cherish her memory are one grandson, three granddaughters, four great-grandsons, four great-great-granddaughters, three great-great-grandsons, one granddaughter-in-law; one brother, Bud (Gladys) McClain; two sisters, Thelma McClain and Billie Pierce; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Dorothy “Dot” McClain Woodby will be conducted at 6 p.m. Sunday, January 22, at Memorial Funeral Chapel. Graveside services and interment will be at 11 a.m. Monday, January 23, in the McClain Cemetery, Roan Mountain. Pallbearers will be her family. The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. The family would like to express a special “Thank You” to her great-granddaughter, Tina and husband Tony Salters, for the awesome care during her time of illness.
