The Elizabethton Lady Cyclones needed a pick-me-up after the tough loss to Science Hill earlier in the week, and a Three Rivers Conference contest against Johnson County proved to be a spirit lifter.

Riding a 40-10 halftime advantage, the Lady Cyclones cruised to a 67-33 win inside John Treadway Gymnasium before a good crowd on homecoming night.

“We missed a lot of inside shots,” said Lady Cyclone head coach Barry Johnson. “Staying focused is a hard thing to do when you have a big lead. We challenged them in different ways on what they could accomplish.

“It’s still a conference win on homecoming. We are still looking for that consistency though.”

Haley Burleson scored all of her game-high 11 points in the first 16 minutes and had plenty of help in the early going.

Brittany Campbell added eight points with Autumn Lyon adding five. Loran Campbell dropped in four while Kaylen Shell and Ashley Depew netted three points each.

The second half saw a lot of bench players closing out the contest for the Lady Cyclones with the big lead as 13 players scored at least a basket in the homecoming affair.

Camryn Koroma came off the bench in the fourth quarter to score seven points with Linda Espino and Destiny Little scoring four in the second half.

Amara Bunten chipped in with three points.

A scary moment for the Lady Cyclones came when freshman point guard Kaitlyn Light was knocked to the floor banging her head off the hardwood.

Johnson said that Light will be going through concussion protocol for the next seven days.

Courtney Brooks paced the visitors from Mountain City with 10 points while Michala Cretsinger added six to cut her points needed to reach 1,000 for her career to 15 points.

Britain Peele and Destiny Cole each scored four points for the Lady Longhorns as well.
