A Carter County man and woman arrested last week after police say they were found in possession of a stolen vehicle now face additional charges of theft.
On Tuesday, Carter County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Mark McClain arrested Tiffany Brooke Grindstaff, 23, of 1010 A Hobart Hyder Drive, Elizabethton, and Coby Lee Wilson, 26, of 1010 Bluefield Ave., Elizabethton, on new warrants charging each of them with two counts of burglary of a motor vehicle.
Elizabethton Police Department Detective Joe Harrah obtained the new warrants against Grindstaff and Wilson. Harrah was also the detective who filed charges against the pair in connection with the theft of a 2002 green Ford Explorer from a city residence earlier this month.
Officers arrested Grindstaff and Wilson on Jan. 18 in the parking lot of a  restaurant after an officer responding to a tip about a possible drug transaction said he found the pair in possession of a stolen SUV. According to court documents, the new charges stem from items which police say they recovered from inside the stolen vehicle.
Bobby Fair reported to police someone had stolen a GPS unit from his Nissan Rogue while it was parked at his home on Monument Place. Cody Nidiffer reported to officers someone had taken a Makita drill set from his vehicle while it was parked at his home on Jena Beth Drive.
“Coby Wilson and Tiffany Grindstaff were in possession of the GPS and drill set upon their arrest,” Harrah said.
Both Grindstaff and Wilson appeared in Carter County General Sessions Court Wednesday morning for arraignment on the new charges. Judge Keith Bowers Jr. scheduled the pair to return to court on Monday, Jan. 30, which is when they were slated to appear on the stolen vehicle case.
