Rebecca “Becky” Stephens Gilmer

Rebecca “Becky” Stephens Gilmer, a resident of Johnson City, passed away peacefully at home Monday, January 23, 2017. Becky was born in 1948 in Fort Riley, Kansas.
She was a registered nurse who served in public health before committing full time to motherhood and management of her husband’s dental office in Elizabethton.
She is survived by her husband of 47 years, Phillip Gilmer, and their eight children, Kitty Atkins, Nichol Cox, Josh Gilmer, Caleb Gilmer, Casper Gilmer, Noel Gilmer, Sierra Gilmer and Norman Gilmer. In addition, there are 12 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
The family will be receiving friends on Thursday, January 26, from 2 until 4 p.m. in the East Parlor of Appalachian Funeral Home. Family and friends will be gathering later that evening for reflection and celebration of a life well lived, at 208 Parkway Blvd., Elizabethton, at 6 p.m. Private disposition will be held at Mountain Home National Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers or memorial gifts, please show an act of kindness, forgiveness, or generosity to someone unexpecting in the memory of Becky.
