Julia Annette Richardson Markland, 50, of Elizabethton, passed away early Sunday morning, January 29, 2017, at Johnson City Medical Center after a brief illness. A native of Carter County, Mrs. Markland was a life-long resident of Elizabethton and the daughter of the late Grayson E. and Betty Jean Isaacs Richardson. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her paternal and maternal grandparents, several aunts and uncles, her father-in-law, and an infant son, Malachi.
Mrs. Markland was a member of Lynn Valley Baptist Church of Elizabethton. She was a graduate of Elizabethton High School and attended East Tennessee State University. Mrs. Markland worked as a Pharmacy Tech at Food City Pharmacy in Elizabethton.
Julie made an immense impact on those who knew and loved her and on those whose lives she touched. She was a true example of love for her family, her children and grandchildren, and her many friends. Her spirit of love will live on in each of our hearts.
Mrs. Markland is survived by her husband of 16 years, Brian Markland, of the home; one daughter, Cara Shea Gouge, of Elizabethton; one son, Joseph “Marcus” Markland, of the home; one sister and brother-in-law, Janna Akers-Cline and husband Kevin; two grandchildren, Kyra Jean Gouge and Christopher Luke Gouge; her mother-in-law, Gail Markland; one sister-in-law, Andrea Howard and husband Chris; two aunts, Audrey Isaacs Hart and Mary Katherine Wilson; and a special friend, whom she thought of as a daughter, Jessica Miller, as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.
A funeral service to celebrate the life of Mrs. Julia Annette Richardson Markland will be conducted at 7 p.m. Wednesday, February 1, in the Chapel of Peace at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, with Rev. Dennis Wilson and Rev. Terry Richardson officiating. Music will be under the direction of Jamie Schaff, soloist. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 5 until 7 p.m. Wednesday, prior to the service, or at the residence at any time. The graveside service and interment will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, February 2, at Hyder Cemetery, Jack Tolley Road, in Hampton. Active pallbearers will be Ryan Akers, John Wilson, Jeff Wilson, Ed Chambers, Kenneth Chambers, Chris Howard, Tyler Howard and Hunter Howard. Honorary pallbearers will be Matt Batchelder, Keith Gouge, Kevin Cline, David Shouse, Jose Cabello, cousins, friends and neighbors.
