100 words. 100 snacks. 100 streamers. 100 fingers.
Kindergarten students at Central Elementary celebrated the 100th Day of School with a day full of activities and lessons about the number 100.
“It’s one of the Kindergarten standards to count to 100, so we count by tens, by ones, and by fives,” said Kindergarten teacher Hannah Hazelwood. “We do a lot with 10 groups of 10.”

So, in honor of the 100th Day of the school year, Hazelwood and her fellow Kindergarten teacher Angela Campbell planned a wide variety of activities to keep their students busy and learning on Wednesday.
“We do things throughout the day that deal with the number 100,” Campbell said.
For the celebration, Hazelwood and Campbell gave their students crowns, glasses and visors all marked with the number 100.

The students participated in a variety of different craft projects for the day. They created gumball machines using 100 fingerprints for the gumballs. Students crafted their own necklaces using 100 beads — 10 each of 10 different colors. Sticking with the 10 groups of 10 things, the students made treat bags using 10 different kinds of snack foods.

In a change of pace, the students used painted handprints to count to 100 by fives using their five fingers.
“We also did 100 words,” said Campbell. “It’s a caterpillar with 100 words on it.”
The students also drew pictures of themselves now and then next to it drew a picture of what they will look like in 100 years.
“It’s fun and educational,” Campbell said of the day’s activities.
