In just one week, the doors will open on Holston Habitat for Humanity’s newest ReStore location.
“We will carry home decor, appliances, furniture, building materials, and a variety of items for the home,” said Trish Patterson, who handles Community Outreach for Holston Habitat for Humanity.
“Most of the items are gently used items donated by the community,” Patterson said. “We also get some new items in from overruns, overstocks, and discontinuations.”
The grand opening two-day event for the new Habitat ReStore in Johnson City is set for Friday and Saturday, Feb. 17-18, from 9:30 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. The ReStore is located at 3201 Kimberly Court off of Mountain View Road.
“After months of hard work, Holston Habitat for Humanity is excited to welcome the community into the new Habitat ReStore in Johnson City,” says Art Pearce, Holston Habitat’s Executive Director. Like the Habitat ReStore in Kingsport, the ReStore in Johnson City accepts donated new or slightly used home and building supplies, and sells them to the public at 50 to 75 percent below retail store prices.
There are many benefits to the Habitat ReStore program, according to Patterson.
“It keeps things out of the landfills. That is one of the great things about the ReStores,” Patterson said. “It also gives members of the community the opportunity to purchase these items at 50 to 75 percent off retail prices.”
“Plus, all the money goes to building houses,” she added.
Those wishing to donate new or gently used items to the ReStore have a couple of ways to do so, Patterson said.
“They can call us to schedule a pickup, or they can drop their donation off,” Patterson said. The ReStore provides pickup service for free. Patterson said donations can also be dropped off at either the Johnson City or Kingsport ReStore during regular operating hours. While the ReStore in Johnson City does not take donations of clothing, other household items are accepted. Donors can call 423-335-5573 to schedule a donation pickup.
Donations to the ReStore are tax deductible, Patterson said, adding Habitat can provide the necessary tax forms for the donations.
“We want folks to remember to donate to the ReStore when remodeling, and when they have no room for gently used furniture and appliances,” said Wendy McIlquham, ReStore Manager for the new Johnson City site.
