Eugene Paul Waters

Eugene Paul Waters, 77, of Elizabethton, went home to be with his Lord on Tuesday, February 14, 2017, from Hillview Health Care Center. Eugene was a native of Carter County and a son of the late James Phillip and Gracie Canter Waters. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Howard Waters and Phillip Waters, and two sisters, Rachel Clipse and Martha Mae Campbell.
Eugene retired as a roofer and was a United States Army veteran, having served in the Vietnam Era. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He was a member of Little Doe Free Will Baptist Church and a member of the D.A.V. of Elizabethton. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, and he loved word search puzzles.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 54 years, Shirley Waters, of the home; one daughter, Gina Mann; one son, Paul Waters and wife Sandi; two grandsons, Lil’ Paul Waters and Dakota Waters; three great-granddaughters, Chloe, Ava and Riley, all of Elizabethton; one special niece, Robin Shell, of Elizabethton; several nieces and nephews; and his best friend and loving cat, “Meow Meow.”
A service to honor the life of Eugene Paul Waters will be conducted at 7 p.m. Thursday, February 16, in the Chapel of Peace of Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, with Pastor Shane Waters officiating. Music will be under the direction of Joel Crisp and Ronnie Blevins. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, prior to the service, or at the residence at any time. The graveside service will be conducted at 10:45 a.m. Friday, February 17, at Mountain Home National Cemetery. Military Honors will be accorded by the Carter County Honor Guard. Active pallbearers will be Paul Waters, Lil’ Paul Waters, Dakota Waters, Jimmy Bowling, Michael Waters and Phillip Waters. Honorary pallbearers will be the members of his church. Those wishing to attend the service are asked to meet at the funeral home at 9:30 a.m. Friday to go in procession. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Hillview Health Care Center nursing staff and to Amedysis Hospice for the love and care shown to Eugene during his illness.
