Sweet treats were had by all Friday afternoon as Lions Club representatives (from left) Shirley Williams, Connie Williams, Thomas Davis and Yolanda Vestal provide ice cream to children at the Boys & Girls Club.

Children at the Boys & Girls Club of Elizabethton/Carter County were able to enjoy the warm weather with a chilly dessert Friday afternoon.
Members of the Elizabethton Lions Club sat up shop inside the organization’s main lobby and provided ice cream sundaes to children that exemplify good behavior.
“This is a project we do with the Lions Club and is something we’ve done for a little while,” Lions Club member Yolanda Vestal said. “This is for county and city children that are part of the Boys & Girls Club. I talked with the teachers and we’ve been doing this on the last Friday of each month.”
Vestal, along with Thomas Davis and Mr. Connie and Shirley Williams, provided different smiles to children scooping up ice cream before children went to enjoy the weather.

Having these types of programs are nothing out of the ordinary for the Lions Club, Vestal explained. The Lions Club is celebrating it’s 100th anniversary this year and the organization is always welcoming new members.
“We’re community-based and this year’s we’re celebrating our 100th anniversary,” Vestal said. “If you like to do community-oriented stuff, come join us. We encourage people to come visit us the second and third Thursday of each month at Beef O’Brady’s at noon.
“We’ll provide you with a meal the first time and the second time, we’ll expect you to be a member,” Vestal added with a laugh.

And while the Lions Club stays busy, the Boys & Girls Club also has a slammed week ahead.
