Martha J. Barbre, 85, of Athens, Ala., passed away Sunday, February 26, 2017, at Limestone Health Facility. Mrs. Barbre was born January 31, 1932 in Carter County, Tenn., to Lawrence Gouge and Gladys Clark Gouge.
Mrs. Barbre was a member of West Highland Baptist Church where she served many years in the nursery rocking babies and also sang in the choir. She was a Tupperware dealer for over 40 years.
She is survived by her husband, Gene Barbre of Athens; two daughters, Ceri Barbre of Athens and Sandra Vastano and husband, Mike of Chattanooga, Tenn.; two sons, Jeff Barbre and wife, Tina of Athens and Steve Barbre and wife, Melisa of Hartselle, Ala.; grandchildren, Adam, Russ, Andrew Vastano, April Jones, Jamey Barbre, Alex and Nick Barbre; eight great-grandsons; and siblings, Betty Carr, Sara Schaag, Alan Gouge, Ron Gouge, Gary Gouge and Glen Gouge.
Services will be Tuesday, February 28, at 10:30 a.m. at Limestone Chapel Funeral Home with Joe Teal officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday from 9 until 10:15 a.m., prior to the service.
