Phil L. White

Phil L. White, 89, of Johnson City, passed away on Friday, March 3, 2017, at NHC HealthCare of Johnson City. He was a son of the late Ollie C. White Sr. and Lucy Scott White. In addition to his parents, Phil was preceded in death by brothers, Ralph, Frank, Dean, O.C. Jr. and Jack, and sisters, Thelma Loggans and Mary Davis.
Phil was a 1945 graduate of Science Hill High School and served his country in the United States Army during WWII, having been stationed in Germany. He was a charter member of Grandview Christian Church and a member of Rhea Lodge #47, Jonesborough, as well as the Knoxville Scottish Rite Bodies. Phil retired from the wholesale grocery business. He enjoyed photography, painting and woodworking in his shop.
Phil is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Jean Edens White; numerous nieces and nephews; and his lifelong friend, Alf Taylor.
The family will receive friends from 10 until 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 8, at Morris-Baker Funeral Home. A funeral service will follow in the Dogwood Chapel under the direction of Aaron Wymer. A committal service is scheduled to follow at 1 p.m. at Mountain Home National Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Mike White, Jeff Murray, Gerald Webb, Keith Crutcher, Mark Edens, Tom Burleson, Richard Thompson and Richard Caldwell. Honorary pallbearers will be Alf Taylor, Dwight Allman, Luther McKeehan, Jerry Carley and Larry Tester. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Grandview Christian Church, 300 University Parkway, Johnson City, TN 37604; Washington County Scottish Rite Shoe Fund, c/o Rhea Masonic Lodge #47, 208 N. 2nd Avenue, Jonesborough, TN 37659; or Shriners Children’s Hospital, 950 Farris Road, Greenville, SC 29605.
