A Chili and Soup Fundraiser for Relay for Life will be held from 4:30 to 7 p.m. at Hampton Christian Church Fellowship Hall, located on Deerfield Lane behind Hampton High School. The menu will consist of chili, many soup varieties, cornbread, drinks and desserts. The suggested donation is $5. Eat in or carry out. The fundraiser is for Donna’s Dream Team.
Nicotine Anonymous, a 12-Step Recovery Program of Mutual Support for those who want to stop smoking or live free of nicotine in any form, will meet at 7 p.m. at the Carter County Drug Prevention Coalition Youth Opportunity Center, 546 East Elk Ave., Elizabethton. There are no dues or fees. You only need to bring a desire to stop using nicotine. Contact Thad at 423-306-3866 for more information.
TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) will meet at First Baptist Church, 212 East F St., Elizabethton. Weigh-in begins at 5:30-6:30 p.m. with the meeting starting at 6:45 p.m. Everyone is welcome to attend these meetings. The Johnson City United Auto Workers Retirees will hold their monthly meeting at 10 a.m. at the Pipefitters Union Hall, 655 Watauga Road, Watauga. The Carter County/Elizabethton Retired Teachers will meet at 2 p.m. at Memorial Presbyterian Church. Music and the program will be presented by Mary Jane Kennedy, Archivist and Storyteller from Sycamore Shoals State Park. All retired teachers are welcome.
The Watauga Association of Genealogists will host a genealogy help night in the Tennessee Room at the Johnson City Public Library, 100 West Millard St., at 6:30 p.m. WAGS members will be there to assist you in your search. The Butler Ruritan Club will host a Soup Contest from 5 to 6:30 p.m. at the Butler Ruritan Hall (above the Butler Fire Department), 291 Piercetoan Road. A variety of soups and chili as well as a tossed salad, dessert and drink will be served at a cost of $5 per person. Come and support your local Butler Ruritan Club.
Rocky Top Gun Permit School will offer a handgun carry permit class at 135 Keenburg Road, Elizabethton, starting at 8 a.m. Ken Potter, a veteran law enforcement officer, is the instructor for the class. Rocky Top is one of the first schools to offer permit training and has been teaching the program since 1997. Cost of the class is $55. You will need to bring your weapon and 50 rounds of ammo. Overmountain Weavers Guild Fibers Show and Sale — Don’t miss this great opportunity to visit with some of the best fiber artists of our region! If you love fibers, this is the place for you! Demonstrations include weaving, spinning, knitting, natural dyeing, and more. A variety of handmade items will be offered for sale. This event will be held at Sycamore Shoals State Historic Area from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m.
Arboretum Ramble – Spring Hike! — Celebrate Spring at Sycamore Shoals State Park! Join retired forester Martin Miller, for a special guided tour of Sycamore Shoals’ arboretum. Discover a variety of native trees and fun facts about their unique qualities, historical uses, and contributions to local culture. Dress appropriately for the weather as we will be taking a casual stroll on the park grounds adjacent to the front parking lot. Meet in the Visitor Center lobby, tour will begin at 11 a.m. Please no pets. Tour is by reservation only and subject to cancellation due to significantly inclement weather. The Waters of Roan Highlands will be hosting a Bingo Night for the residents, their families, and the local community of Roan Mountain from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Prizes will be provided by the facility. Sycamore Shoals Lecture Series — Dr. Jay Franklin, Professor of Archaeology in the Dept. of Sociology & Anthropology at East Tennessee State University, will present a lecture on Collapse, Coalescence, and Spanish Incursions into 16th Century Native Upper East Tennessee. Cayla Cannon, Graduate Student, in the Dept. of Geosciences at East Tennessee State University will present a lecture on In Search of the People Who Lived Here Before: from Historic to Prehistoric Significance at the Carter Mansion Site. This event will begin at 7 p.m. Please join us this evening for this unique opportunity to get a first- hand look at the most current research on these topics! This lecture is free and open to the public.

Story Time Performances with the Knoxville Symphony Strings Ensemble, Inspiring Young Musicians, will be held at 2:30 p.m. on the Bonnie Kate Stage. Free admission. The event is sponsored by the Carter County/Elizabethton Library.
