The annual Legislative Breakfast is now a sold out event, but Chamber of Commerce officials say there will be a change to Friday morning’s lineup following a cancellation by one of the scheduled speakers.

On Tuesday, Elizabethton/Carter County Chamber of Commerce Director Tonya Stevens announced Tennessee Governor Bill Haslam would not be attending the Breakfast. Haslam had previously confirmed he would attend and speak at the event, but a member of his staff later contacted the

Chamber and informed them the Governor’s schedule had changed and he was no longer able to make it to the Breakfast.

“We do still have confirmations from all of Carter County’s State Senators and Representatives as well as from our local mayors and field representatives for U.S. Senators (Bob) Corker and (Lamar) Alexander,” Stevens said. “We also do have confirmation that unless an unforeseen situation arises U.S. Congressman Phil Roe will be in attendance.”

The Legislative Breakfast is an annual event for the Chamber of Commerce and serves as not only a way to connect residents with their elected officials but also as a fundraiser for the Chamber.

In past years, tickets would sometimes be available for purchase at the door, but that is not the case this year according to Stevens.

“Our Legislative Breakfast has sold out,” Stevens said. “We will not be selling tickets at the door Friday morning.”

Josh Smith, an Elizabethton native and TV anchor with WJHL, will once again serve as the moderator for the Legislative Breakfast. Each of the representatives on the panel will be given three to five minutes to address those in attendance.

Those in attendance who would like to do so can submit a question they would like to ask one of the panel members in writing. Questions will be drawn from a basket with as many being answered as is possible during the time frame allotted for the Breakfast.

The Legislative Breakfast will be held at 7:30 a.m. on Friday at the Tennessee College of Applied Technology at Elizabethton. Sponsors for this year’s event are TCAT, SnapOn Tools, International Paper, and Fatz Cafe.
