Gordon Mitchell Humphreys, 80, of Bluff City, went home to be with his Lord, Monday, March 27, 2017, at Johnson City Medical Center. He was born on December 2, 1936, in Piney Flats, Tenn., a son of the late Ted and Lizzie Humphreys. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Orlin and Dwight Humphreys, and a sister, Alice Mae Bare.
Mr. Humphreys was retired from Raytheon Corporation and was a member of the Elizabethton Church of Christ. He loved his church family and his special little church friend, Sarah Ellis, very much.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Ruth Humphreys, of the home; two sisters, Mary Bell Carrier, and her husband, Jerry, and Betty Ruth Phipps, and her husband, Jack; and a brother, Theodore Humphreys. Several special nieces, nephews, cousins, sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, whom he loved very much, also survive.
A service to honor the life of Mr. Humphreys will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday, March 30, in the Bluff City Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home with Mr. Dennis Pierce and Mr. Roby Ellis, ministers, officiating. Singing will be led by Dempsey Jordan and Chris Jordan. The family will receive friends in the Tetrick Funeral Home, Bluff City Chapel, from noon until 1 p.m. Thursday, prior to the service, or at the residence at other times. Committal and entombment will follow the funeral service in the mausoleum at Glenwood and Shelby Hills Cemetery, 839 Bluff City Highway, Bristol, Tenn. Active pallbearers will be the Elders and Deacons of Elizabethton Church of Christ. Those who prefer memorials in lieu of flowers may make donations in memory of Mr. Humphreys to the Elizabethton Church of Christ, 137 East C Street, Elizabethton, TN 37643.
