For more than a decade, the Carter County Imagination Library has honored the community’s educators through the Educators Hall of Fame.

This year’s Educators Hall of Fame celebration will take place on Saturday, April 8, at 6 p.m. The Tennessee College of Applied Technology at Elizabethton will serve as this year’s host for the celebration. Dinner will be served at 6 p.m. with the program and recognitions following the meal.

The purpose of the celebration is to recognize and honor educators “who have made a lasting impact in the lives of the citizens of the Carter County community,” said Tyler Fleming with the Carter County Imagination Library.

Each year, the Imagination Library inducts a total of four teachers into the Hall of Fame — one living retired teacher each from the Carter County School System and the Elizabethton City Schools system and one deceased teacher from each of the two school systems. The Hall of Fame was founded in 2006 by the Imagination Library Board of Directors.

This year’s inductees from the Carter County School System are Sherry Miller, who taught at Cloudland, and the late John Fine, who was principal at Unaka High School. The inductees from the Elizabethton City Schools system are Martha Laws, who taught at East Side, and the late Nell Curtis, who taught at T.A. Dugger.

“We’re also honoring the Teachers of the Year from the respective school systems,” Fleming said.

Each year, both the Carter County and Elizabethton City school systems select three teachers of the year. This year’s Teachers of the Year for Carter County are William Anderson of Hampton High School, Amanda Greer of Happy Valley Middle School, and Sarah Naylor of Hunter Elementary. The 2017 Teachers of the Year for the Elizabethton City Schools are Joe Diaz of Elizabethton High School, Kip Anderson of T.A. Dugger Junior High, and Beth Stevens of Harold McCormick Elementary.

The Master of Ceremonies for this year’s celebration will once again by local television news anchor and Elizabethton native Josh Smith.

The Swashbucklers, a celebrated men’s vocal ensemble from East Tennessee State University, will provide the entertainment for the celebration.

Tickets for this year’s Educators Hall of Fame Celebration are available for purchase at a cost of $20 per ticket and may be purchased at the Elizabethton/Carter County Public Library or from a member of the Imagination Library Board of Directors.
