Ireland Gail Greene Johnson

Ireland Gail Greene Johnson, 92, of Johnson City, went home to be with her Lord on Wednesday, March 29, 2017, at Ivy Hall Nursing Home after an extended illness.
A native of Big Stone Gap, Va., she was a daughter of the late George D. and Dona Linkes Greene.
Mrs. Johnson was a graduate of Hampton High School where she played on the Ladies Basketball Team. She loved all types of sports and was an avid Lady Vols Fan.
Mrs. Johnson was retired from Stanley Home Products. She was a member of the former Hampton Eastern Star and a member of Grace Baptist Church. She was also a pastor’s wife, having been married to Rev. Eugene Johnson for 31 years, who passed away January 13, 1983.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, George Greene Jr. and Gilmer Greene, and a sister, June Largent.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Ireland Eugenia and Dan Walker, Lebanon, Tenn.; two sons and daughters-in-law, Rex D. and Judy Johnson, Elizabethton, and Bradley and Linda Johnson, Watauga; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; a sister, Sharon Adams, Johnson City; several nieces and nephews; and her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Stanford and June Johnson, Elizabethton.
The graveside service for Mrs. Johnson will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, April 1, in the Union Baptist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Ron Owens and the Rev. Nathan Jennings officiating. Interment will follow the service. Pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. The family would like to express a special “Thank You” to the entire staff of Ivy Hall Nursing Home for the excellent care our mother received.
