As the progression of the arts scene continues in Carter County, one local studio is looking to lend a hand to the cause.
Blue River Studio is hosting an artist reception for Allison Parker and Larry Reid on Friday, May 19, from 6 to 9 p.m. at their studio, located at 122 B Armed Forces Drive in Downtown Elizabethton.
“Allison and Larry will be showing some of their latest works and be available to discuss classes they are teaching and projects they’re involved in,” said Karen Hitchcock, who operates the studio with husband, Tom.
Regarded as “two of Elizabethton and Johnson City’s talented young artists,” the duo will be allowing the public to view their pieces inside the facility while Blue River will also provide refreshments during the evening.
Developing the arts scene is key, according to Karen. Elizabethton and Carter County recently saw their stock in the department rise over the months with the inception of the studio and the creation of the Elizabethton Arts & Cultural Alliance — a nonprofit organization focused on helping beautify the community.
While the studio offers receptions, the duo continue to stay active with the Downtown Business Association in Elizabethton — often assisting in art pieces to be used in breezeways. Blue River Studio also assisted in reinvigorating a discovered piece of artwork inside the Bonnie Kate Theater during renovations.
The public is also invited to a variety of upcoming events. Blue River Studio is offering a special art exhibit for aspiring artists during June. To go along with the art aspect, Blue River Studio will also offer an “Open Mic in May” event on Thursday, May 25, from 6 to 9 p.m. free of charge.
Attendees are encouraged to bring an instrument, story, or other items for the event. Performances get underway at 6:30 p.m.
