Ethel Virginia Holdren Akard

Ethel Virginia Holdren Akard, 74, of Bluff City, passed away Wednesday, May 17, 2017, at the Wellmont Hospice, Bristol. She was the daughter of the late Archie and Nora Vaugh Holdren. Ethel was also preceded in death by her husband, James Samuel Akard “Casey”; one brother, Archie C. Holdren Jr.; and two sisters, Barbara Sue Garland and Alberta Sims.
Ethel was strong in her faith. She was a member of New Life Baptist Church. She loved to garden, sew and be outside. Ethel also loved children and helping those in need.
Those left to cherish her memory include one daughter, Doris A. Feathers (Thomas), of the home; a son, Roy E. Akard (Amy) of Bluff City; four grandchildren, William T.H. Feathers, Martha M.F. Abel, Christian S. Feathers and Abigail A. Akard; two great-grandchildren, Joshua L. Feathers and Peyton G. Abel; one brother, Charles Holdren (Brenda); and two sisters, Louise Pierce and Anna M. Miller. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life will be held at 7 p.m. Saturday, May 20, at Tetrick Funeral Home, Bluff City Chapel, with Pastor Coy Webb officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 21, at Sunrise Cemetery in Bluff City. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at the cemetery at 1:50 p.m. Those who prefer memorials in lieu of flowers are asked to make donations to New Life Baptist Church, 1000 Hendrickson Lane, Bluff City, TN 37618.
