Local businesses helping with cosmetics at library

Patrons of the Elizabethton/Carter County Public Library should be ready for some changes to the facility’s back parking lot.
With damage to the wall near the parking lot, the library was able to call on the services of a pair of local businesses.
Taylor Stone Masonry was out in full force Thursday afternoon as the final touches were being put in place on the wall, which is receiving a decorative stone finish from Taylor Stone Masonry owner Brian Taylor.
“They’ve had some water damage over the years on the wall,” Taylor said. “So we’re here to help any way we can.”
Looking on, library director Renita Barksdale had nothing but praise for the efforts of the company, which is expected to complete the project next week. While the cosmetics will be appealing to eyes of patrons, the director added it was important to support local businesses when possible.
“I think it is a great way for Elizabethton to live and survive,” Barksdale said. “We have to have partnerships with our local businesses. I’m just thankful for what Brian has done for our library. In the beginning, the wall was falling apart. It was a hazard.
“Now we’ve got this beautiful wall,” she continued with a smile. “We appreciate Brian and his company for coming out to help with this project. It is a perfect way for us to try to make the library as beautiful as we can on the inside and the outside.”
And Taylor was quick to return the favor to the staff. Shawn Stanley, who assists Taylor, was working in another type of capacity Thursday with a brick house oven in the parking lot.
“Shawn has his own business, Fire in the Hole pizza, and helps some with masonry,” Taylor said. “I thought this would be an excellent way to get his word out and feed the staff at the library. It was our way to give back.”
Individuals looking to get in touch with Taylor can call (865) 748-4352. Fire in the Hole can also be reached by calling (423) 823-7448. Both businesses can also be viewed by the public on Facebook.
