As the weather continues to heat up across the region, Roan Mountain State Park will have a bevy of activities available to the public.

Even with the natural beauty of the facility providing enough of an incentive for visiting, Park Ranger Meg Guy said the Summer Concert Series for 2017 will provide fun for all ages.

“It’s always a great time,” Guy said about the annual tradition at the park.

The park ranger added that this year’s lineup of performers will have “new faces and some favorites”.

After months of anticipation, the first performance gets underway Friday, May 26, at Picnic Shelter 3 on the park’s premises beginning at 7:30 p.m. Local band “The Corklickers” kicks off the concert series. Marshall Ballew wraps up May’s performances the following day.

“We’ve have bands for everyone,” Guy said. “We’ve also have other performers that will be part of the series. The Trailblazers Cloggers are always a crowd favorite, and for our Independence Day Celebration, we’ll have ‘Mr. Mystery’ – a magician who is a favorite for children.”

The schedules for the rangers are fixing to pick up, according to Guy. Along with the concerts, RMSP offers a variety of programs and activities for the public.

“It’s a busy time, that’s for sure,” Guy said with a laugh. “But we enjoy it. We’ve been preparing for these different activities, and we hope the public enjoys.”
