Those looking to participate in the annual Community Yard Sale & Antiques event held as part of the Covered Bridge Celebration should get their applications in soon before all the spaces are taken.

Applications for the event are now available, but Elizabethton/Carter County Chamber of Commerce Director Tonya Stevens said spots for the sale will go fast.

“We have plenty of spots right now, but we encourage people to reserve those early,” Stevens said. “We usually get full pretty quickly.”

The Comunity Yard Sale & Antiques event will take place on Saturday, June 10, from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m. on East E Street.

Those wishing to take part on the sale can reserve a 10 feet by 10 feet spot at the cost of $10. Multiple spaces can be reserved for $10 for each space. Those participating in the Community Yard Sale & Antiques event must provide their own table, chairs, tent, racks or whatever equipment or displays they need.

There are restrictions on what sorts of items can be sold at the event, according to Stevens.

“You can sell what you would normally put in your household yard sale,” Stevens explained, adding no crafts or food items can be sold at the yard sale because that would conflict with vendors in the festival’s marketplace area. The application also prohibits the sale of “flea market items.”

Participants may begin set up at 7 a.m. on the day of the event but must be ready to begin selling items by 8 a.m. Spaces must be evacuated by 3 p.m. and participants must take away their trash and boxes when leaving.

“There is someone who will be there during the yard sale monitoring to make sure the rules are being followed,” Stevens said.

Applications and payment to participate in the event must be turned in to the Chamber of Commerce by June 7 in order to participate. Applications are available in person or online at the Chamber’s website, www.elizabethtonchamber.com, by clicking on “Covered Bridge Celebration” under the events tab.

“This is a rain or shine event,” Stevens said. “The rain location for this event is the Boys & Girls Club.”
