A group of 10 contestants vied for titles on Sunday afternoon while working to raise money to help children receive needed medical treatments.

The Miss Watauga Valley Pageant hosted a special fundraising pageant on Sunday to raise money for the Children’s Miracle Network. “Overall we raised $1,320,” said Chana Kirby, one of the event organizers.

The money will be donated to CMN through the Miss America 4 Kids drive in the name of the reigning Miss Watauga Valley Peyton Wilson. CMN is the national platform for the Miss America Organization, and Wilson has already received national recognition for her work raising funds and awareness for CMN.

Last month, for Miss America Serves Day, Wilson competed against more than 1,600 other titleholders across the country in a contest to see who could raise the most money for CMN. Wilson placed 3rd overall after raising more than $6,000. She will join the other top five finishers on stage at the Miss America Pageant in September to be recognized for their fundraising efforts.

“It’s my fourth year going to watch Miss America, but this year will be my first being recognized,” Wilson said.

In addition to her appearance at the Miss America Pageant, Wilson will also take the stage next month as she competes in the Miss Tennessee Pageant in Jackson.

On Sunday evening a number of special titles were awarded as part of the strictly for fun fundraising pageant, which is not part of the Miss America
