To the Editor:

It is with a great deal of pleasure we announce, as of May 19, work has begun on refurbishing this historically poignant reminder of sacrifice and valor!
Several days have been spent removing many decades of oxidation and deterioration, and we are almost ready to apply the first coat of paint. It is interesting to note, upon inspection, the mural at the top had almost completely broken free of its foundation. It owes its continued existence to the large flagpole running the mural and embedded in concrete at the base. The good Lord was watching over it! note: It has now been reattached.
VFW Post 2166 would like to take this opportunity to thank the following organizations and personnel for their planning, donations, and labor which is making this project possible: Student Veterans of America (SVA) at East Tennessee State University; Tri-Cities Military Affairs Council (TC-MAC); Veteran Affairs at ETSU; Bowers Automotive; and Bob Carter.

Thank you,
Duane Gilbert,
Commander VFW Post 2166
