The deadline is fast approaching for local non-profits who would like to work with the Elizabethton/Carter County Chamber of Commerce for a fundraising event.
Each year, the Chamber of Commerce hosts the Taste of Carter County event in the fall. The Chamber donates proceeds from the event to a local non-profit each year.
The Chamber invites non-profits to submit and application. Those applications are then reviewed by a special committee, which selects the organization to receive the funds for the year.
The application asks for information about the nonprofit and what purpose is serves for the community.
“We want to know the mission of the organization and the impact it makes in the community,” said Chamber Director Tonya Stevens. “The other thing we want to know is if you are the recipient, what is your plan for these funds and how will you use them to benefit the community.”
The one-page application is available at the Chamber of Commerce office. Non-profits are asked to fill out the application and return it to the Chamber. Stevens said they may include other items such as photographs or documents to explain their mission and how they serve the community. “They are more than welcome to send us whatever they would like to make their application more informative,” Stevens said.
Those applying are also asked to provide documentation showing their status as a non-profit organization.
The applications process is open to all non-profits, regardless of their mission or programs.
“There’s a wide variety of non-profits, everything from churches to youth athletic programs, civic clubs, and even some medical organizations,” Stevens said. “There’s a wide variety of organizations that help serve our community.”
The non-profit selected by the committee will be required to assist the Chamber in selling tickets for the event and must also provide volunteers to help with the event.
The deadline for applications is by Noon on Friday, June 30. Applications can be submitted to the Chamber in person at their office located at 500 Veterans Parkway (Highway 19E), by e-mail to director@elizabethtonchamber.com, or by mail to Chamber of Commerce, P.O. Box 190, Elizabethton, TN, 37644. Mailed entries must be postmarked by June 30 to be eligible.
The Chamber has not yet announced the date and location for the 2017 Taste of Carter County. The Taste will once again be sponsored by Security Federal Bank.
“We are so grateful to them for their support,” Stevens said. “This will be their third year sponsoring this event with us.”
