The Board of Education for Elizabethton City Schools is scheduled to meet Tuesday, July 18, at 6:30 p.m. with an abbreviated agenda that features a look at the contract for Director of Schools Dr. Corey Gardenhour.
Members are scheduled to vote on appointing Board Chair Rita Booher to enter into contract negotiations with the director during Tuesday’s meeting.
The topic of the director’s contract was brought up during a recent meeting where BOE members met in a workshop. Support from the director was unanimous for the Dr. Gardenhour, currently in the second year of a four-year contract.
With the current contract in place, the maximum the board could extend the contract out for the director would be two years.
Another topic to be discussed during Tuesday’s meeting includes a possible agreement between ECS and Interquest.
Officials will vote whether or not to enter into an agreement with the company for detection canines from August 2017 to May 2018 for $3,000 for ten half-day visits.
According to information provided by the school system, Interquest is licensed and registered by the U.S. Department of Justice, Drug Enforcement Administration, Texas Department of Public Safety and the Texas Commission on Private Security.
The company will provide contraband inspection services utilizing nonaggressive contraband detection canines to search pinpoint areas and not search persons of students or visitors.
