Jonesborough church hosts program on backyard birding

Bryan Stevens, the author of a weekly column on birds and birding, will present a free program, “Bold Backyard Birding,” on Saturday, Aug. 5, from 1 to 3 p.m. at Central Christian Church, 106 Main and Fox Streets, Jonesborough.
You may also bring pictures of birds that you have seen, and Bryan will identify them for you.
Stevens is an educator, editor, and writer. He has written a weekly column on birds since 1995 that has been published in various newspapers in northeast Tennessee, southwest Virginia and western North Carolina.
He maintains a blog at ourfinefeatheredfriends.wordpress.com, and regularly publishes photos featuring aspects of the natural world on his Facebook page. He won a second place state-wide award in the photography category “Pictorial” from the South Carolina Press Association for a photo he took at Brookgreen Gardens in South Carolina in 2016.
His program, titled “Bold Backyard Birdwatching,” will feature photos from his own home, as well as from some of his birding adventures during his travels. He resides in Hampton. Stevens is an adjunct faculty member with the Department of Literature and Language at East Tennessee State University in Johnson City.
