With summer almost at its climax, Elizabethton Parks and Recreation shows no signs of slowing down anytime soon to provide entertainment for citizens.
The Food Truck Junction is making its way to Elizabethton Saturday, Aug. 5, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the parking lot of Joe O’Brien Field prior to the Elizabethton Twins home contest against the Burlington Royals.
Several food trucks are expected to be in attendance, according to Kelly Kitchens.
Kitchens, with Parks & Rec, noted the success of the Food Truck Junction around the region and added it was a top priority to bring the collaborative event into Elizabethton.
“They have so many events in the Johnson City area. This is a great way to give residents a chance to visit Joe O’Brien Field and our local parks and support local businesses,” Kitchens said Wednesday.
The Food Truck Junction is comprised of various mobile food units in Southwest Virginia and Northeast Tennessee to showcase different foods offered in the region.
Since announcing the event, Kitchens added social media has been abuzz with the public showing interest to attend.
“Events like Saturday are just some of the different types of things we want to offer,” Kitchens said. “There are so many different parks and locations to hold events like the Food Truck Junction. The more the community supports it, the more we can offer these kind of activities.”
Visitors have the chance to have a picnic inside Joe O’Brien Field during the day, Kitchens said. Once Twins players take batting practice, attendees can take to the grandstands to watch the future up and coming players in the Minnesota Twins organization.
Saturday also allows citizens to see Riverside Park, Kitchens said.
“There are so many people from the community and out of the area that come out to support the Twins,” she said. “This is just another way to show what Elizabethton has to offer.”
Inflatables will also be available during the Food Truck Junction.
Prior to the 6 p.m. first pitch, attendees can also bring their furry friends down to Joe O’Brien for the “Bark in the Park” dog show. Dogs on leashes will be allowed during the game and a special “doggy pageant” is scheduled to take place. Saturday’s game is being sponsored by Big John’s Closeouts.
