Willis Marie Guess

Mrs. Willis Marie Guess, 78, of Elizabethton, went home to be with her Lord on Thursday, August 10, 2017, at Sycamore Shoals Hospital. Willis was born in Carter County to the late Bo and Irene Parlier Clemons. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Melissa Moffitt, and a son, Jeffrey Moffitt.
Willis was a homemaker and a member of Stoney Creek Baptist Church. She enjoyed flowers, reading and especially loved spending time with her family.
Those left to cherish her memory include her loving and devoted husband of 48 years, Luther Guess, of the home; three daughters, Judy Duncan and husband Rev. Macil Duncan, of Sparta, Tenn., Donna Ward and husband Tim, of Elizabethton, and Larissa Walters and husband Scott, of Kingsport; a son, Arthur Guess and wife Regina, of Johnson City; 11 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; three sisters, Beverly Hendricks and husband Sid, of Fletcher, N.C., Phyllis Hart and husband Dennis, of Elizabethton, and Shirley Holdren and husband Robert, also of Elizabethton; and two brothers, Elmer Clemons and Steve Clemons, both of Elizabethton. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
A celebration of life service for Mrs. Willis Marie Guess will be conducted at 7 p.m. Monday, August 14, in the Chapel of Peace at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, with Rev. Macil Duncan officiating. Music will be provided by her granddaughters, Maci and Rachel Duncan. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 6 until 7 p.m. Monday, prior to the service. A graveside service will be conducted Tuesday, August 15. Active pallbearers will be Scott Walters, Jordan Guess, Mark Ward, Brannon Britt, Micah Lansing and Tim Ward. Honorary pallbearers will be Brian Fraley and Mrs. Guess’s many friends and neighbors.
