Glen Ray Simerly

Glen Ray Simerly, 81, of Elizabethton, Tenn., went home to join his wife in the presence of his Lord on Friday, August 25, 2017, at his residence.
A native of Carter County, he was the son of the late Rady and Mamie Waycaster Simerly.
Mr. Simerly was the custodian for First Christian Church, Elizabethton, for 25 years. He was a member of First Christian Church, Elizabethton, where he served as a deacon. He enjoyed playing the guitar and singing.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Barbara Simerly, and a sister, Nadine “Jo” Lambert.
Those left to cherish his memory include a sister, Kathleen Grindstaff, Elizabethton; two nephews, Steve Hyder, Johnson City, and Keith Grindstaff, Bristol; and a god-daughter, Sherry Lowe, Johnson City.
A graveside service to honor the life of Glen Ray Simerly will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday, August 29, in the Highland Cemetery with Mr. Michael Klaus, minister, officiating. Those wishing to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at the cemetery at 1:50 p.m. Tuesday. The family would like to express a special thank you to Glenda Arwood for her love and support.
