Downtown Elizabethton will see an extra flare of arts and culture in the coming week.
Blue River Studio recently announced the inaugural Downtown Art Walk is scheduled to take place Friday, Sept. 22, from 5 to 8 p.m. throughout historic downtown. Blue River Studio is sponsoring the event along with the Elizabethton Arts and Cultural Alliance and the Bonnie Kate Theater.
Participants will be greeted with refreshments, a children’s chalk art area next to Sweetsie Treats and a children’s art show at the Bonnie Kate Theater. Proceeds will be accepted during the day and will go to promote the downtown’s use through the arts and community events.
Shops will be staying open late to welcome in the inflow of traffic. Participants can visit different stores that feature an artist to pick up a “passport and map.” Individuals can get their passport stamped by each artist, then have the opportunity to be entered to win a gift basket. Stamped passports will be accepted at Blue River Studio.
A recent boom of beautification has swept through downtown due to different projects. A mural was recently installed in the alleyway beside Sweetsie Treats and the Coffee Company. Elizabethton High School student Sarrah Eggers is partnering with the Downtown Business Association to place different murals through downtown. The first store on the docket is the dressing room.
Eggers indicated that donations are being accepted for the project.
“We will need several gallons of paint in a variety of colors, and we will also need the brushes and supplies to apply the paint,” she recently told the Elizabethton Star. “The specific paint required for painting the brick wall and having it last is more expensive than regular paint. Any donations would be wonderful and greatly appreciated.”
Individuals can email sarraheggers1@gmail.com to donate.
Blue River Studio is also bustling with different opportunities for artists to showcase their work.
