Bobby Gene Grindstaff, 73, of Elizabethton, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, September 11, 2017, at his residence after a courageous battle with cancer.
A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late Robert Earl and Lora Shouse Grindstaff.
Bobby served in the United States Army and was retired from Snap-on Tools as an electronics technician. He was a member of Lynn Valley Baptist Church. He loved to play the guitar, banjo and harmonica, sing in church, and collect old Westerns.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Robert Grindstaff, and three brothers, Jerry Grindstaff, Tex Grindstaff and Joe Shouse.
Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Helen Earnhardt Grindstaff; a son, Michael Keith Browder and wife Angie Greene Browder; a daughter, Selena Dawn Norris and husband Johnny Norris Jr.; two sisters, Sheila Nidiffer and husband Larry Nidiffer and Janice Calloway; six grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and a special sister-in-law, Shirley Grindstaff.
Funeral services for Bobby Gene Grindstaff will be conducted at 7 p.m. Thursday, September 14, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Dennis Wilson and the Rev. Jerry Cornett officiating. Music will be provided by Selena Norris. The graveside service and interment will be at 2 p.m. Friday, September 15, at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Honorary pallbearers will be his church family. The family would like to express a special “Thank You” to Mountain States Hospice especially Greg, Ruby and Pam. Military Honors will be provided by the Carter County Honor Guard. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Friends may also visit with the family at his residence. Family and friends will assemble at the funeral home at 1:20 p.m. Friday to go to the cemetery. Condolences may be sent to the family at our website at www.memorialfcelizabethton.com.
