This weekend, motorcyclists are invited to hit the open road while helping to raise money for a local service organization.
The Elizabethton Moose Lodge 360 will host their second annual Charity Poker Run to benefit the TLC Community Center.
Registration will begin at 11 a.m. at the Elizabethton Moose Lodge, located at 288 Lovers Lane. Kick stands will go up at 11:45 a.m. The cost to participate in the event is $15 per rider and $5 for a passenger.
The route will take riders up Stoney Creek to the TLC Community Center where the riders will do a drive by the Center. From there they will travel up Highway 91 to Shady Valley, take Highway 421 into Bristol, then on to Johnson City before returning to the Moose Lodge through Watauga.
“We’re going to have a meal afterward at the Moose Lodge,” said Terry Cannon, Past Governor for the Lodge. “We will probably be ending up around 4 or 4:30.”
Participants will be treated to an old fashioned pig roast barbecue dinner at the Lodge.
The five stops along the route will be T.C.’s Market & Grill in Stoney Creek, Blackwolf Harley Davidson in Bristol, 50/Fifty Sports Tavern in Johnson City, Tulips Grub & Pub in Johnson City, with the final stop being the return to the Lodge.
The organizers of this year’s event decided to try a twist on the typical concept of a poker run. Instead of picking up poker cards at each location, participants will get a chance to roll the dice.
“We wanted to do something different,” Cannon said.
Participants will add up their rolls from each stop and once the ride is complete the person with the lowest total score will be declared the winner.
All of the proceeds from the ride will be donated to the TLC Community Center, which provides a variety of programs for women, children, and families in the community.
Door prizes will be handed out, and participants will be eligible to take part in a 50/50 drawing.
Sponsors for this year’s event in addition to the Lodge include 50/Fifty Sports Tavern, Tulips Grub 7 Pub, T.C.’S Market & Grill, Blackwolf Harley Davidson, Folsom Printing, and other local merchants.
