John W. Kemp “Junior”

John W. Kemp “Junior”, 78, of Elizabethton, passed away after an extended illness on Wednesday, September 13, 2017. A resident of Carter County, he was the son of the late John Kemp Sr., Mattie Whaley Stout and J.P. Stout (Uncle Jim).
John retired from the Johnson City Housing Authority. He enjoyed life, especially trading, repairing and making things. He loved being outdoors and his coloring books.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 60 years, Elizabeth Hammitt Kemp, of the home; his sons, Gary Kemp and wife Jill Wilson Kemp and Johnny Kemp and wife Joyce Hartley Kemp, all of Elizabethton; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one brother, David Stout, of Johnson City; two sisters, Bertha (Keeva Ann) Humphries and husband David and Evelyn Lamons, all of Johnson City; and his special little fur baby, Sadie Mae. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
A service to honor and celebrate the life of John W. Kemp will be conducted at 3 p.m. Saturday, September 16, in the Riverside Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, with Mr. Richard Thomason, minister, and Rev. Dallas Gregg officiating. Music will be under the direction of Jill Kemp. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 1:30 until 3 p.m. Saturday, prior to the service, or at the residence of his son, Gary Kemp, 168 Bishop Hollow Road, Elizabethton, at other times. An inurnment will be conducted at a later date. The family would like to express their appreciation to Amedisys Hospice, especially Lori Ligon, Gail Miller and Samantha Clark, for the loving care given to John during his illness.
