My FATHER didn’t tell me how to live, he lived, and let me watch him do it……..
Larry Blankenship passed away Sunday, September 17, 2017.
In addition to his parents Luther & Maxine Blankenship, Larry was preceded in death by his sister Connie Tolley Hood.
Larry is survived by his wife of 48 years: Judy Frazier Blankenship, daughter: Tina Parlier: son Johnny Blankenship & wife Jovonna. Brothers: Jeff Blankenship and Ronnie Blankenship, sister: Saundra Slagle & her husband Pete. Grandchildren: Nikki Blankenship Collins & husband Bryant, Samuel Parlier & wife Brooke and Sawyer Parlier. Great Grandchildren: Brylee Collins and Hadley Parlier.
Special thanks to Dr. Wayne Tongco and his assistant Marcy for their compassion and care provided to Larry over the years.
Larry was born in Johnson City before moving to Stoney Creek in Elizabethton.
Larry was severely injured as a child in a car accident at age 11. This led him to be the strong willed and determined man he became. Despite his health issues, Larry worked his entire life. Employers included Gordon’s Furniture, Seaver’s Bakery before retiring from Mapes Piano Strings.
He was known throughout town and the community, often seen walking in downtown, at Elizabethton Twin’s Games or with the men at McDonald’s. You couldn’t miss his smile, humor, or generosity, always giving sweets to young and old.
It was Larry’s wish to have no funeral services. Instead of flowers donations may be made to First Church of God, 609 N. Lynn Avenue, Elizabethton, Tn. 37643. Larry also would hope that you will do an unexpected act of kindness for some less fortunate person, in his memory.
The family knows Larry inspired all who knew him with his toughness, will and attitude to never give up. Condolences may be sent to the family at our web-site www.memorialfcelizabethton.com.
