BY RAY LYONS
CARTER COUNTY COMMISSIONER
Where do we go from here?
This is an excellent question after the County Commission elected a new Chairman, Vice-Chairman & seated Committees for the new year. I suggest that each of us as County Commissioners remember that we were elected by the people and we work for the people.
It is my prayer that we heal the wounds, remove the gridlock and work together as a body to accomplish positive things for the people Carter County. We are all mere servants, nothing more or nothing less.
Some of those opportunities are: working together as a body, working together to balance a budget without increasing property taxes, thoroughly examining all departmental budgets before approval, capitalizing on the economic opportunities available in the community and through the Joint Economic Regional Development Board. Making sure WE continue building strong relationships with the City of Elizabethton and allowing a “seat at the table” for all people and all people are equally represented throughout the County and City.
The new Chairman and Vice-Chairman have my full support as we move forward in a positive manner.
To my fellow Commissioners, please do not sit idle and worry about running your campaign during this election year, but let us work harder and smarter while fulfilling our fiduciary responsibility as elected officials.
