Michelle Dawn Williams, 53, of Elizabethton, passed away peacefully with family at her side on Tuesday, October 10, 2017, at Holston Valley Medical Center following a brief illness.
A native of Carter County, she was a daughter of the late Robert B. and Ruby Wilson Williams.
Michelle was a 1982 graduate of Unaka High School, where she excelled in sports, and a 1987 graduate of ETSU, where she earned her B.S. in School Social Work and a Master’s degree in teaching. She had previously taught at Unaka Elementary and Happy Valley Middle Schools in the Carter County School System when she retired due to disability. She had a compassion for teaching and her students loved her. She always made learning fun.
Michelle was a very caring person and had a great big heart, especially when it came to children. She was a member of Hunter United Methodist Church.
Survivors include her sisters, Nyoka Holder and husband Daniel, Elizabethton, and Judy Nave of Livingston; her brothers, Robert “Jackie” Williams and wife Louise, her twin brother, Michael Williams, and Nick Holder and wife Leia; one uncle, Willard “Pete” Wilson and wife Margaret; and special friends, Kim Ensor and Kim Valentine. Several special nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services for Michelle Dawn Williams will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, October 14, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Estel Williams, the Rev. Leann Crandall and the Rev. Mike Berry officiating. Music will be provided by Suann Buck and Marilyn Bowers. Interment will follow in the Caldwell Springs Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Nick Holder, Mike Williams, Seth Williams, Mike Ensor, Dusty Weathers, Chris Guy, Logan Guy and Josh Nave. Honorary pallbearers will be David Grindstaff, Jeremy Valentine, David May, R.L. Stewart, Scott May, Stephen Fry, James Goss, members of the Unaka Class of 1982, and members of Hunter United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to East Tennessee Christian Home & Academy, P.O.
